What pace is

Pace is how long it takes to cover a fixed unit of distance, usually shown as minutes and seconds per kilometre or per mile. It is the same information as speed, just expressed the way most runners think about their effort: time per unit of distance rather than distance per unit of time.

How it is calculated

Pace, time, and distance are related by one equation: time equals pace multiplied by distance. Give this calculator any two of those values and it solves for the third, converting between kilometres and miles as needed. There is no estimation involved, it is direct arithmetic.

Why runners use it

Use it to plan a run at a specific target pace, to work out what pace a goal finish time requires over a given distance, or to check what pace you actually held on a run once you know the time and distance covered.
